Birdwood opens in Lane Cove

Lucky old Lane Cove. We've been waiting on a retail move from Marrickville coffee wholesaler Double Roasters, and they've just opened Birdwood, a cafe on chirpy Birdwood Lane. "One of the partners is from the northside. We like the area, and there's not as much specialty coffee going on around here," says co-owner Scott Robertson.

Birdwood will rebirth some of the signatures from its [now sold] Marrickville cafe. "We've brought back the three cheese croque monsieur with goat's cheese, cheddar and sour cream," Robertson says.

Head chef Niyant Naryan is dishing up house-cured ocean trout with crushed minted peas and ricotta and a pork belly sandwich with kimchi and aioli.
