The owners of Bondi's China Diner are saddled up and riding west – well, as far as the inner west at least – where they will open a satellite restaurant at the Tramsheds development at Forest Lodge.

It's welcome news for locals with an eye for modern Asian menus. "We've taken the brewery site opposite Bodega 1904," says China Diner's co-owner, Kingsley Smith.

The 150-seat China Diner Tramsheds will open in December. Smith says there was a little bit of extra pull with the site because it includes an outdoor area.

"We thought there was room in the market there for our sort of food, and we'll do our usual takeaway."

Smith had some first-hand intel on the Tramsheds site from Eugenio Maiale, owner of his Bondi neighbour, A Tavola. "He owns Flour Eggs Water at Tramsheds, which is doing really well."
