If you (like us) think there's room in the Sydney CBD for a proper New York style deli and a decent bagel, then listen up.

Brooklyn Boy Bagels owner Michael Shafran has nabbed a site at the Gateway Building at Circular Quay and plans to roll out his first pastrami on rye as early as next week.

"We'll be looking down at what the Mary's boys are doing at The Basement. It'll be bagels meets New York deli meets cafe," Shafran tells Good Food.

The new Brooklyn Boy outpost will be pastrami central. Shafran is currently auditioning local artisan pastrami makers (he'll serve it on his own rye) as well as using the lip-licking Russolini by Steve Hodges salmon pastrami product.

"It's not too salty, it's similar to the ones back home (in the US)," he says.

While locked in for a six month stay at Gateway, if all goes well Shafran says the move will be permanent.
