The burger juggernaut is accelerating, with hatted Queensland chefs firing up the grill and flipping patties.

E'cco's Philip Johnson had burger lovers lined up around the block when he opened Howzat Burger pop-up beneath his hatted restaurant in January this year. So successful was it that he has made it permanent and has now opened a second burger "branch" at the Eat Street Markets in Hamilton. The menu at Eat Street is a pared back version of the Adelaide Street venue, with just three burgers on offer: The Don, a signature beef burger; the Chix and Out, chicken, bacon and avocado, and the Mexican Wave, pork belly, coleslaw and chipotle mayonnaise.

Tony Kelly, who moved back to the Sunshine Coast and into the kitchen at Peter Kuravita's Beach House from two-hatted Stokehouse, has joined the revolution too, with his Maroochydore 60 seater, Hello Harry, due to open at Easter. With partner Scott Hoskins, Kelly is also having a mobile Hello Harry burger stand built for catering jobs.

Further north, the crew from the one-hatted Coast at Hervey Bay, Julia Paussa, Nick Street-Brown and Krista Graham, wet the head of their new baby, Badger and Brown's Burgerie last week.

The name, Paussa says, is a combination of Graham's nickname "angry badger" and Brown's surname. Apparently it's been going great guns with soft-shell crab burgers with hoisin and Kewpie mayonnaise, and buttermilk fried chicken burgers flying off the grill plates. The trio plan to install a soft-serve ice-cream machine (a cherished childhood dream, Paussa admits) to make up weird and wonderful flavours in the style of Momofuko Milk Bar in New York.

Badger & Brown's Burgerie, Shop 1A, 449 Esplanade, Hervey Bay, open daily 11am-late.

Howzat Burger, 510 Adelaide Street, Tues-Fri 11am-3pm; Eat Street Markets, Macarthur Avenue, Fri-Sat 4pm-10pm.

Hello Harry, 12-20 Ocean Street, Maroochydore. Opening at Easter.
