From all-vegan dining to the restaurants that just really know how to look after their vegan guests, here's where to go for plant-based food in Canberra.
Do you know the secret? Morks' secret vegan menu, that is. You won't find it on the regular menu, but they offer a big selection of vegan entrees, mains and a dessert. Plus if there's a group of you (minimum four), you can opt for their vegan banquet. So how do you get it? All you have to do is ask (nicely, of course).

With a vegan head chef, you know their vegan fare is gonna be good. Lazy Su is all about making vegan food interesting and tasty, and their regular menu boasts plenty of options, all clearly labelled. There's also a dedicated vegan banquet, and it's a great spot to go with a group if you have a mix of meat-eaters, vegetarians and vegans - everyone will be looked after accordingly. Lazy Su also does a completely vegan Han Jung Sik style Korean banquet four times a year - keep an eye on their social media channels for dates.
1/9 Lonsdale Street, Braddon
You can always find an interesting mix of vegan options on their regular menu (plus plenty of vegetarian and gluten free dishes). But in the coming months, Muse is putting on a vegan degustation dinner, with matching vegan wines. Keep an eye on their social media channels and website for the date.
69 Canberra Avenue, Kingston
The Narrabundah restaurant has a full vegetarian menu, with the majority of dishes also vegan. The team is particularly good at looking after groups where there's a mix of meat-eaters and non-meat-eaters. Want something special? Ask for the sexy tofu.
16 Iluka Street, Narrabundah
Sweet Bones has been serving Canberra's vegan community since 2011, first at the Lonsdale Street Traders, and now a bit further down the road. There you can fill up on vegan breakfasts, lunches, cakes, cookies and brownies. For your coffee, there's soy milk, almond and coconut milk and a house-made cashew milk, soy milk.
8/18 Lonsdale Street, Braddon
Another stalwart of vegan dining in Canberra, Dickson's Au Lac opened their second restaurant this year in Woden. The Vietnamese eateries offer an extensive vegetarian and vegan menu, and you can tuck into imitation beef, pork, chicken, duck, fish, squid and shrimp, all made from soybean. Food is also available for takeaway.
4/35-39 Woolley Street, Dickson; and Westfield Woden, Corinna Street, Phillip
You can also get your imitation meat fix at fellow Dickson Vietnamese restaurant Kingsland. The extensive menu is completely plant-based, and you can dine in or takeaway. Good banquet options for four or more people.
5/28 Challis Street, Dickson
You'll have to steer clear of the three-cheese toastie and the french toast, but everything else on the menu at this laneway cafe can be made vegan. For now they serve breakfast and lunch, and coffee can be made using their house-made nut milk. Soon they will also add dinners on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, with a vegan-friendly menu and vegan wines.
Odgers Lane, Canberra
Braddon's dessert heaven always has completely-vegan sorbet options on its quirky, ever-changing lineup of ice-cream flavours, and they now also serve vegan desserts in the cabinet.
28/30 Lonsdale St, Braddon
There are already quite a few vegan dishes on the menu at this popular Civic breakfast haunt, but the friendly crew are always very accommodating with changes and vegan alternatives, from the food, to coffees, or turmeric lattes and milkshakes.
26 Narellan Place, Canberra
They always an interesting mix of flavours in the cabinet at Doughnut Department, and there's always a vegan option. They replace the eggs, butter and milk with chia seeds and Bonsoy soy milk - flavours so far have included cinnamon sugar, orange glaze with toasted almonds, rhubarb jam berliners, yuzu, and almond butter caramel.
2 Alinga Street, Canberra
Vegans don't miss out at this south Indian restaurant - there are not only plenty of vegan options across entrees, mains, curries and desserts, but they also do house-made Indian beverages, and recently added vegan wine to the drinks menu.
83 Theodore Street, Curtin
The place to get your vegan seafood mix, with vegan versions of fish, prawns, squid and calamari, plus burgers and schnitzels. On the last Sunday of every month, they completely do away with their regular menu and serve vegan food only.
87/105 Petrie Plaza, Canberra
The casual vegetarian cafe in Dickson serves up vegan breakfasts, burgers, wraps, curries, soups, salads, sweets and drinks, all available eat in or takeaway.
