The Archibald Prize exhibition isn't the only reason to hot foot it to the Art Gallery of NSW, with Chiswick at the Gallery restaurant set to close in mid-January.

The gallery has announced Solotel made the decision to leave, allowing it to focus on its other restaurants, pubs and bars, including – of course – the Chiswick mothership in Woollahra.

It's been a challenging 2020 for the NSW Art Gallery, riding through a temporary closure, social distancing and a ravaged corporate and events environment.

But there is some good news. Chef Matt Moran tells Good Food: "While Solotel has decided to get out, I'm staying on in an advisory role. I can put a chef in there and help keep the standards where they are."

The gallery has confirmed Moran's new role as culinary advisor and will announce a new catering partner down the track.

Chiswick at the Gallery opened in October 2014.
