Matt Moran isn't giving up Chiswick's crown as the boss of Mother's Day without a fight.

"It's the busiest Mother's Day restaurant in Sydney. In a normal year we'd have 500 customers in the restaurant," the chef explains.

So popular is a Mother's Day table at the Woollahra restaurant, it was already booked out before the COVID-19 crisis hit.

So, it's no coincidence Moran has chosen this week to jump in on a takeaway pivot.

Chiswick is the first Solotel restaurant to join, but it won't be the last. Conscious takeaway hasn't worked at many higher-end restaurants, so Moran says they'll focus on local restaurants in the stable.

In the next few weeks North Bondi Fish will boot up – ladling out fish and chips among other fishy delights – though Aria is likely to be a non-starter.

But there is some good news for the Aria faithful, with its signature duck pie available on the Chiswick menu.

Moran has skipped the cook-at-home route taken by many restaurants, opting for a pick-up menu instead.

This weekend Sydneysiders can tuck into a Mother's Day family meal designed for four people (with starters, sides and dessert).

There's a chicken pack ($169) and lamb ($199), with Moran saying it "offers quite a big discount on eating-in prices".

While the veteran chef is quietly hoping to break the record for the number of people Chiswick feeds on Mother's Day next Sunday, there's a more important factor at play.
