With the Bridge Room set to close its doors at the end of April, talk has turned to what's next for the owners of the award-winning Sydney restaurant.

Ross and Sunny Lusted say they'll open a new restaurant – not a Bridge Room clone – in early 2021. If they want to return to the same neighbourhood, the AMP's Quay Quarter development currently under construction across the road from Bridge Room would fit the bill.

But while the duo remains tight-lipped on details, they describe the intended destination as one of Sydney's "most exciting precincts". They also confirm they'll have a new partner in the venture following an amicable split with Bridge Room co-owner the Fink Group.

The clues and timing sound a suspiciously neat match with James Packer's incoming gaming and entertainment opus at Barangaroo.

Time will tell, but the impending departure of the Bridge Room is another set-back for the ravaged pointy end of Sydney dining, which has seen a posse of restaurants such as Marque, Eleven Bridge, Gastro Park and Sepia close in recent years.

The Bridge Room opened in 2011, snaring a number of accolades and awards on its journey. It won The Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide Restaurant of the Year award in 2016 and Lusted was named chef of the year in 2014.

The restaurant, where the chef's menu sets diners back $185, has been a pace-setter for Sydney dining.
