David Thompson's final service at Bangkok's Nahm restaurant last night had tongues wagging.

What is the next move for the expat Sydney chef? The whispers suggest a new Thompson-led venue will open in Bangkok late 2018.

Thompson, who built a reputation for excellence at Sydney's Darley Street Thai, first opened Nahm at the Halkin Hotel in the early noughties, earning a Michelin star in its first year.

In 2010, Nahm slipped into Bangkok's Metropolitan Hotel, winning more awards.

While Thompson's name is entwined with the Nahm brand, he has been building outside interests, including the Long Chim restaurants.

Nahm will now be headed by Pim Techamuanvivit, the restaurant's first female chef.
