The World Square site of the Grange-serving China Republic restaurant, which shut in 2015 after just 20 months following a rumoured $7 million spend on its interior, will be born again this week.
The builders have been in again in recent months, new operators splashing out on a fresh redesign.
Quanjude, the Peking duck specialist that opened its doors in Beijing in 1864, spreading its wings around the globe [including Melbourne] opens its doors to the public on Thursday.
As you'd expect from a brand that sells two million ducks a year, there's plenty of duck options on the opening menu (fancy sweet and sour duck with strawberry?).
But Sydneysiders do not dine on duck alone. Adventurous diners will find plenty of options with dishes such as pork aspic with spicy beans, a casserole of pork offal and braised meat with taro and brown sauce.
