It was the coolest kid on its block and led the peloton in the postcode renaissance for hospitality venues in Double Bay, but Mrs Sippy won't return to its Bay Street digs.

Mrs Sippy co-owner Ben May confirmed the cocktail bar and diner had closed in Double Bay, saying the lease was up and the Sippy crew didn't want to sign an inflated lease. So they walked. But don't discount it popping up elsewhere.

"It was a great run. We'd love to do another Mrs Sippy somewhere else," he says.

May, who is busy with other venues – Manly Wharf Hotel and the hit newish Burleigh Pavilion on the Gold Coast – still has a Mrs Sippy in his portfolio: a sprawling three-year-old beach club of the same name in Bali.

Double Bay locals are curious about what will replace Mrs Sippy in Bay Street. Talk on the eat street is a new Mexican venue will slide into the site.
