This Friday, August 9, more than 700 cafes across Australia will donate $1 from every coffee sold (and ask customers to chip in an extra dollar to match) as part of CafeSmart, a national campaign that raises funds for Australians in need.

According to 2016 Census data, about 116,000 Australians are without a safe and secure place to call home on any given night, and despite critical need, many homelessness services are either underfunded or completely without funding.

Last year, CafeSmart raised more than $1 million for grassroots organisations working to provide hot meals, showers, legal services, accommodation, rental and employment advice, training and other long-term solutions to the homelessness crisis.

To help smash last year's total, buy your coffee from a participating cafe this Friday. In Melbourne, that includes Earl Canteen, Axil Coffee Roasters, Rudimentary, Allpress, Moby 3143, Small Axe Kitchen and Auction Rooms. For the full list or to donate, visit streetsmartaustralia.org/cafesmart.
