It's the end of the road for the CBD's Silk Road, which will close after New Year's Eve and reopen as restaurant-bar Mrs Collins in early 2014.

Restaurant group Roar Projects, which owns Docklands bar and events space Alumbra, will strip out the opulent crystal chandeliers and give the space a ''pop culture meets street'' look, says designer Conrad Manolidis, of Blackmilk. Roar's Hatem Saleh says they're still looking for the right chef to deliver avant garde European-based food using local ingredients.

Secretly coveted Silk Road's chandeliers? The group has tagged items that won't survive the makeover and staff are taking registrations of interest.

Mrs Collins, at 425 Collins Street, is due to open in March 2014.
