After an inspiring recent trip to the Greek island of Crete, the team behind Carlton's Epocha is getting set to say "yiasou" to Camberwell when they launch their next venture, Cretan-influenced wine bar and diner Elyros, in late July.

The project is the latest labour of love for co-owners Guy Holder and Angie Giannakodakis, who are getting hands-on with renos at the former Magic City (871 Burke Road), along with a third partner, Epocha floor manager Disa Dimitrakakis.

Named in honour of Dimitrakakis' mother's village in south-western Crete, the key words at Elyros will be "pride and provenance", Giannakodakis says. Expect to see a fresh new take on casual, regional Cretan cuisine and a celebration of honest, seasonal produce.

The intimate wine bar will welcome casual drop-ins (think mod-Greek mezze, great cheese, excellent wines and ready-made meals to take away) while the marble-lined, 60-seat dining room will offer a more leisurely pace with a la carte and tasting menus from Michelin-trained Athenian chef Yiannis Kasidokostas.
