The family behind city venues The Civic and upmarket Greek restaurant 1821 swing open the doors this week on a new gastropub at Bondi Junction.

After the redevelopment of the old Mill Hill Hotel building – which sits on the strip some locals cheekily call the Paris end of Oxford Street, Bondi Junction – the Kospetas clan is now at the helm, relaunching it as The Mill.

"It's a gastropub, the jewel of the Junction. The menu is modern Australian with Asian and Mediterranean influences," Harris Kospetas says.

While the menu rolls from duck pie to Alaskan crab and prawn pasta, Kospetas wants it to be casual and family friendly with an order-at-the-bar concept.

There's also change in the wings over at The Civic. Its recently closed Peppercorn restaurant is getting a reboot, with a modern Asian restaurant opening in its place in December.

Open Mon-Sat 10am-Midnight, Sun 10am-10pm.
