In heartbreaking news for fans of cheap pizza and Aussie rock institutions, Bimbo Deluxe has been gutted by fire overnight.

It is understood the fire started in the offices above the popular Fitzroy bar and eatery shortly after 1am. The exact cause of the blaze is yet to be determined. No one was inside the building at the time and the fire is not being treated as suspicious.

Bimbo Deluxe opened on Brunswick Street in 2002. The venue became a popular hangout for late-night party and bargain hunters attracted to its dive bar vibes and super cheap pizza. $4 pizzas specials are still a regular occurrence

Before it was providing discount margheritas and vodka-infused bubble tea, the old corner-pub site was home to the Punters Club - Melbourne's legendary live music venue that helped launch You Am I, Spiderbait and Something for Kate.

It is not yet known when Bimbo Deluxe will reopen, however its south-of-the-river counterpart, Lucky Coq, is still slinging pizza specials in Windsor for anyone needing a calabrese fix at a low, low price.
