The Potts Point site where Fratelli Fresh pulled the pin and closed over summer will be born again as a restaurant, its incoming operator planning a French twist for the Macleay Street site.

With Missy French exiting the suburb at record pace, the market for a French debutant on what is prized Sydney restaurant turf has increased.

Restaurateur Andrew Becher, a partner at Pelicano, in Double Bay, is behind the Potts Point venture, but will tackle the move into French restaurant territory without his Pelicano co-founders, musician Daimon Downey and businessman Tim Holmes a Court.

A spokeswoman for Becher confirmed he's taken the site, and while it is yet to lock down a name, it has a planned opening date of October.

"It'll be a French brasserie, but it won't be super-French, more French style … A love letter to Paris," she says.

The all-day diner is also believed to have a "big name" chef in its sights.

Fratelli Fresh and its buzzy Sopra eatery was entrenched in the Potts Point food landscape, but late last year its owners told Good Food it would be moving on at the end of its lease period if a favourable deal on a renewal couldn't be struck.
