If your New Year's resolution was to take more classes or save money, now you can kill two birds with one stone. The Duchess of Spotswood is hosting a free butter-making demonstration on February 11 with Pierre Issa (aka Pepe Saya). Issa will talk about how he makes his cultish cultured butter, and Nicholas Gorman, from Yarra Valley Caviar, will discuss his approach to caviar farming. Attendees will be served cucumber sandwiches with Pepe Saya cultured butter, and blini pancakes with Yarra Valley Caviar and Pepe Saya creme fraiche during the class, which runs from 6.30pm-8pm. Bookings essential: sarah@stali.com.au.

Meanwhile, Prahran Market begins its 2014 cooking demonstrations on Thursday, spotlighting Chinese New Year. The free classes, hosted by chocolatier Tad Lombardo, run from noon-2pm in the market's Blanco Demonstration Kitchen, Harvest Hall, every Thursday. No bookings required.
