The upstairs dining room of Grossi Florentino has reopened after two months of renovations. Three years of planning went into the redo by architects Mills Gorman, which also designed the Grossi salumi bar Ombra, and Merchant on Collins Street. It has aimed to create a more welcoming entrance. ''We wanted a contemporary approach but also wanted to keep it very classic,'' chef and co-owner Guy Grossi says. Black marble, hammered glass and modern lighting now feature, and there's a new private dining room for up to eight. The Mural Room has been refreshed, with the original lights, which have been in the Wynn Room next door, being reinstalled. The menu, while still steeped in Italian tradition, ''has become more unshackled and modern, free of inhibitions'', Grossi says.
