Sydney CBD bar Christopher Hanna to offer haircuts and bloody marys

In a city that has seen ice bars, vinyl bars and even the arranged marriage of millinery and the swizzle stick, the idea of a haircut and a cocktail isn't especially out of the ordinary. Indeed the barbershop-bar concept has been around for a while.

But Christopher Hanna salon, on Bridge Street in the CBD, is taking the genre to another level, marrying luxe salon, 65-seat bar and Sydney drinks general Mikee Collins.

"There's nitrogen espresso on tap, cocktails, champagne and bloody marys [from a respectful 10am]," Collins says of the bar, which will open in mid-late January.

With the rear backing onto the city laneway with Mr Wong and Kid Kyoto as its neighbours, the barman is hopeful the salon, which is open now, will prove popular in the crowded area.

Christopher Hanna's food menu cruises along with chicken liver parfait and Spanish sardines on toast, heading for higher altitude with a range of caviar options from $145 to $250.

Designer Melissa Collison says she took design cues from the late 1950s Douglas Annand modernist sculpture in the building.

The interior highlight is the marble and copper horseshoe-shaped bar.

"The owners would like to do more of these [salon-bars]. I can confidently say it is the smartest bar in a salon space in Australia," Collins says.
