Summer is a sweaty, sticky time without air conditioning in Australia. Escaping the heat requires pitching a tent Simpsons-style in front of the fridge, hanging out at the shopping mall or buying tickets to a Hobbit marathon.

This January presents a new option to cool down as the "IceBar Experience" tours Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. Punters have the chance to mingle in sub-zero temperatures surrounded by ice sculptures, ice bars and more ice. Cocktails will be served in specially made ice glasses and burgers are set to be served in a non-frozen state. "Appropriate clothing" will be provided on arrival.

Exact dates and locations for the polar pop-ups are yet to be announced - anyone keen to wear mittens and drink alcohol from a block of ice is encouraged to register their interest at the IceBar website.

Tickets for the Sydney pop-up (set to operate over five days) are $35 for early-bird release and $45 for general sale. That coin will buy you a 45-minute ice session and a drink on arrival. Additional booze will be available to buy.

It's not the cheapest chill-out but it does beat loitering in the frozen food section of Coles.
