Top chefs from Stix Catering to open venues in Marrickville and Hunters Hill

Lucky old Marrickville and Hunters Hill are set to be the beneficiaries of a hidden cell of Sydney chef talent.

A posse of chefs from hatted restaurants quietly toil away in the kitchen at Stix Catering producing the first and business class meals dreamt up by Neil Perry for Qantas.

Now they're opening two venues, the first, Stix Cafe, is being built at Stix HQ on Chapel Street in Marrickville.

"We have chefs from Sepia and Vue de monde, we want to give them an outlet for their talent," says Kevin Drew from Stix.

The rapidly expanding Stix has also nabbed a site in Hunters Hill, an affluent area they've judged in need of a patisserie.

The cafe will open in October, followed by the patisserie. Stix owner David Allison has always harboured grand food plans for the group.

He came close to opening a city restaurant, Gramercy, turning his attention instead to Stix Farm on the Hawkesbury, which is already supplying its organic produce to Sydney restaurants Ester and Oscillate Wildly.

"We ship our food waste to the farm for our chickens, pigs and compost," Drew says.
