The mass migration of Melbourne food venues to Sydney is set to continue, with a couple more set to drop.
The hot gossip on Sydney eat streets is Lune Croissanterie – home of the killer croissants and cauliflower pastries – has secured some Sydney real estate.
While Lune is tight-lipped on its exact expansion plans, Melbourne pizzeria group D.O.C. confirmed it had taken space in the new building at 78 Campbell Street, Surry Hills. It'll open in late February.
Fellow Melbourne emigre Chin Chin is nearby.
D.O.C. owner Michael Costanzo says they've been looking for a Sydney site for several years, previously coming close to nabbing a home in Bondi.
Costanzo is riding into town with a confident swagger. "I like Vacanza and the pizza Maurice [Terzini] does, but to be honest I think there's a huge market up there for what we do," he says.
What they do is ferment their dough for four days so it sits lighter on the stomach. D.O.C. is also home to the black and white truffle pizza.
Hopefully they'll have more luck than Melbourne outfit Sash, the Japanese pizza restaurant that crashed and burned in Surry Hills last year.
