Axil Coffee Roasters welcomes another member to its growing family with the opening of Mayday on Wednesday in resurgent Bridge Road, Richmond.

The corner site was once home to Olmecs Bakery; the makeover features whitewashed walls, bifold windows opening on to the side street, and banquette seating based on old park benches.

The menu is an all-day-cafe-with-Axil-twists thing: pineapple Bircher with sheep's milk yoghurt and lime sherbet; char-grilled cauliflower beignets with goat's cheese; a croque-monsieur with mustard bechamel; and a classic black angus brioche steak sandwich with beetroot jam and pickled zucchini.

Coffee is Axil's signature seasonal espresso blend plus single origins, a filter batch brew, and cold-drip for the warm weather.

Open daily 7am-4pm.
