The pizza may be an inauthentic Italian-Moorish mashup, but that hasn't stopped Thornbury's Moor's Head restaurant from gaining a strong following. Now Joseph Abboud and his business partner John Farha have opened a southside outlet, on the site of former Middle Eastern bakery Manakish in Elsternwick.

They've taken the same menu of manoushe - like pizza - and canoe-shaped pide south. Abboud, who also owns Rumi in Brunswick East, nominates the Oum Kaltoum manoushe (with tomato, ashawan cheese, black chilli and oregano) as his "go-to dish". The Bosphorus pide, with prawns, coriander and chilli, is another signature.

The long room, with seating for 40, is dressed simply with black and white tiles and raw wood. A mural dedicated to the process of making arak, the Lebanese anise spirit, occupies one wall and there's shelving at the front carrying Lebanese supplies to take home. It's open daily from 10am to 10pm.

Details: 480A Glen Huntly Road, Elsternwick, 9523 1198, themoorshead.com.
