Burgers, New York-style pizza and Thai food on the same menu? It's certainly a high-wire pitch, but a new Sydney venue might just have the team to pull it off.

The CBD hotel restaurant site, in the Kent St. Hotel where Mr Tipply's previously traded, will be born again this week as Kent St. Cartel.

The newest addition to the Nettlewood Pub Group, Kent St. Cartel has good pedigree in the kitchen. Merivale and Duck & Rice alumnus Beau Lawson is both executive chef and a partner at Kent St. Social, as is Thai chef Nikki Nantawatkanok (who worked with Lawson at Merivale).

The result? Burgers that lean on American barbecue flavours and the occasional Cuban turn, Brooklyn-inspired pizzas and a compact Thai section that sweeps from pork belly moo grob to crab fried rice.

Designer Pat Lawrence's interior mixes timber panelling, indoor plants and craft light fittings.

Open Mon-Wed 11am-9pm; Thu-Fri 11am-10pm.
