Kylie Kwong is planning to "bottle the spirit" of Billy Kwong and take it with her to a new, smaller venue.

The one-hatted Billy Kwong will close its doors this Sunday, June 30 in what will be an emotional farewell for Kwong, her staff and posse of regular diners.

"Billy Kwong has been part of my life for 19 years. It is the end of a huge chapter for me," she says.

"As sad as I am, it feels like the right thing to be doing, I want to get some work/life balance back in my life, to take a break and take stock.

"I will still be involved with all the things I love and this amazing community which I am so inspired by."

Kwong says "cooking is integral to who I am" so she will open a new restaurant, but it will be on a much smaller and more casual scale.
