Five years after its last service, Le Classic restaurant in Coorparoo is preparing to reopen. The tres traditional French restaurant will start taking bookings in two to three weeks, says Alex Rochet, manager and son of owner and chef Alain.

"My father had some health issues so we had to close. But we have had problems finding reliable tenants and now my father is better, so we thought it was a good time to be back."

It's welcome news to locals who mourned the idiosyncratic restaurant's closure in 2008. According to Alex Rochet many of them have been "sticking their heads in" to see what's going on as they undertake a refurb.

"We've painted and repolished the floors and added touches of wood. It looks great. We're going for more of a bar atmosphere now and have added stools and will do a cocktail list as well as our wines.”

Regulars will be pleased to know that they are sticking to the French menu classics.

"Yes, the menu is the same - perhaps a little bit lighter at lunch time but at night we will have things like snails and French onion soup and fish soup, foie gras, boef bourgignon and confit duck leg - all the favourites.

Also on the menu, is entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights, with Alex's wife and musician Ingrid, along with a piano accordionist, serenading diners, or tickling the ivories of the grand piano.

Le Classic The restaurant will be opened breakfast lunch and dinner four and half days from Wednesday to Sunday lunch.

"It's good to be back, we are very happy", Alex says.
