When Lucio's closed its doors in January after a nearly 40-year run and sold off a big chunk of its prized art collection, the Galletto family said they'd reopen elsewhere. Well, good to their word, they are. Not on their old Sydney turf in Paddington, however. This time they've chosen Noosa.

Lucio's Marina will open in November, with the riverfront venue including a 50-seat bar – where punters can tuck into a seafood panini – and a 60-seat trattoria.

"Dad [Lucio] has been furiously writing recipes, it's like he's working on his sixth cookbook," says Matteo Galletto, who is in partnership in the venture with his wife, Dieuwke Albertsma, and his sister, Michela Galletto.

"We always wanted to continue the Lucio name," he says.

The search for a venue started on the South Coast of NSW before finishing at the Noosa Marina.

While a ferry and, perhaps serendipitously, a gondola ply the waterway, Galletto explained the restaurant is only a 10 or 15-minute drive from Hastings Street.

And the menu? "There was always a real focus at Lucio's on seafood, and that's something we want to continue here with the trattoria-style food," Galletto says.

The young restaurateur said while his parents have helped behind the scenes, they don't have any plans to relocate from Sydney.

"I think they'll get up here pretty regularly, Dad was here recently and was recognised all the time. It felt like half his clientele had moved or retired here."
