Signs of life are flickering as restaurants that closed when the shutdown was announced are returning to the scene.

Yagiz

Murat Ovaz is offering three mod-Turkish menus, land, sea and garden, for pick up or delivery from this week. Each starts with a soup (yoghurt, lentil or tarhana, which is made from a mix of grain and fermented milk or whey), with a main of fish, their slow-braised lamb or roasted cauliflower with spicy muhammara, all served with a side and baklava.

Embla

Praise be, Dave Verheul and Christian McCabe's city wine bar is back, sending classics like the woodfired chicken, semolina and parmesan gnocchi, the restaurant's incredible bread and bottles of wine to your house to spice up the weekend. The weekly menu is $40 per person (minimum two people) with the option to add extras like comte or additional dessert. Keep an eye on their social media and place orders by phone.

Leonardo's Pizza

Nick Stanton's cheesy pizza palace in Carlton has been trading as a bottle-o only, but the pizza ovens are lit once more. Get a pepperoni pie to see you through 'rona or their vegan swiss chard, broccoli and macadamia cream number, all backed by fizz from the cellar and pumpkin pie, malt jersey milk and choc chip ice-cream. They're also selling "the world's best lasagna" (beef and also a pine mushroom one in the works) to heat-at-home. A big call in Covid times.

The Royal Mail duck dinners

It may be some time before you get to Dunkeld, so chef Robin Wickens of the Royal Mail Hotel is bringing dinner to Melbourne and supporting favourite supplier, Great Ocean Ducks in the process. Duck dinners for two feature the restaurant's sourdough, two duck courses (maybe dumplings and breast with a hop glaze) and dessert using produce from the restaurant's extensive gardens. It's $150 including Melbourne delivery.
