A panel of judges trawled Melbourne's four big markets to choose the top traders for the inaugural Market Traders awards on Sunday night. The winners were:

Coffee: Padre, South Melb Market; Deli: Curds & Whey, Queen Vic; Fruit & veg: Georgie's Harvest, South Melb; Meat: Gary's Quality Meats, Prahran; Seafood: Happy Tuna Seafoods, Queen Vic; Poultry: The Chicken Pantry, Queen Vic; Specialty: Peanut Market, Dandenong; General merch: The Pet Grocer, South Melb.

The judges (including this columnist), Russell Zimmerman (executive director Australian Retailers Association) and chef Nicky Riemer (Union Dining), visited Prahran, South Melbourne, Queen Victoria and Dandenong markets.
