Produce boxes have helped a number of restaurants and suppliers do their pandemic pirouette, but don't forget Melbourne's fresh food and farmers' markets are still open for business, and offering online alternatives if you're hesitant to show up in person.

The Queen Victoria and Dandenong markets are the latest to offer a click-and-collect service. You can pre-order goods from participating traders, pay, and then collect your order the next market day from a designated area without having to do the rounds.

A similar service is also being offered by South Melbourne and Preston markets while Prahran, which started a trial service early into the lockdown, has now built an e-commerce site so you can shop from 33 of their vendors (including Gary's Meats and Maker and Monger) and get the box delivered if you live within 5km.

Many of Melbourne's farmers' markets are also still operational, with scheduled events at Coburg, Alphington, Collingwood and Gasworks. You can also now order shiitakes from the Mushroomery, Schulz dairy, and Holy Goat cheeses via the Melbourne Farmers' Marketplace (search on openfoodnetwork.org.au) and collect on Wednesdays or Fridays from Alphington.
