A one-time magnet for generations of Sydney wharfies has had a makeover. After a seven-month renovation, the Australian Youth Hotel has emerged with a new look (courtesy of Alexander & Co) and a new name.

The Glebe Hotel, as it is now known, has splashed the wall of its restaurant with a modern jacaranda mural by Sydney artist, Indigo Jo, while still maintaining the heritage feel of the pub.

The Stables Bar & Grill has a new gastro pub-inspired menu from chef Ben Allcock, with chargrilled spatchcock, twice-cooked lamb belly and house-made gnocchi with roast butternut pumpkin.

The courtyard adjacent to the Stables, with its famed fig tree, is dog-friendly and a new upstairs function room, Nude, tips its hat to its use in the 1960s as a brothel. It features chandeliers, baroque-style sofas and vintage nude art.
