Bitcoin pioneer and previously named Sydney's best bar with food by The Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2012, The Owl House has punched above its diminutive size for the past eight years.

But time is up at the Darlinghurst venue, which will close its doors on June 30.

Owner Amir Halpert couldn't negotiate a favourable enough lease to stay, so he says he's moving on. With Halpert early to the bitcoin feeding frenzy, accepting bitcoin payment from 2014 and starting his own bitcoin "collection" in the same year, you might expect him to be retiring to the Bahamas.

But the hospitality bug remains, and Halpert's currently negotiating a new site locally to transplant The Owl House.

He's also sticking with bitcoin, working with the Darlinghurst Business Partnership to establish a Darlinghurst "precinct" that accepts cryptocurrency.
