Church Point hospitality jewel Pasadena has claimed a fresh scalp, with its incoming food and beverage operator pulling out of the project.

Paul Schulte, the experienced restauranteur and bar tsar drafted by the owner of the controversial waterfront property, had planned to open a 160-seat seafood grill in March at the redeveloped property, which will also include a boutique hotel.

But that deadline was repeatedly pushed back at the venue, which has seen community unrest over concerns ranging from parking to noise.

Former NSW director of public prosecutions Nicholas Cowdery weighed in earlier this year over what he sees as Pasadena owner Paul Peterkin's lack of engagement with the community regarding the project.

"I have pulled out of Pasadena for a bunch of reasons," Schulte tells Good Food.

Schulte, who recently opened a new venue in San Francisco, has now turned his attention away from Sydney's northern beaches to the city, where he is close to signing a deal on a new site.

Word on the streets at Church Point is a number of high-profile hospitality operators are now in talks to take on the Pasadena project.
