Perth Good Food Month program highlights 2019

From eating insects with a glass of tequila at a roadside stall to sampling oysters at Elizabeth Quay, Perth restaurants have teamed up for the month of April to show off an eclectic sample of the taste of the city.

Dozens of restaurants will be a part of the Perth Good Food Month, presented by Citi, line up of Friends of Good Food Month and Let’s Do Lunch events, in association with the City of Perth.

Let’s Do Lunch deals at Good Food Guide-hatted restaurants, for a special price of $45, includes a glass of wine, beer or soft drink at any time in April. For example, Rockpool's lunch special is beer braised wagyu beef with potato puree and silverbeet, while Lalla Rookh guests can enjoy a main of market fish with red braised vegetables with a glass of soave or valpolicella, a pint of Colonial kolsch or soft drink.

Each year, Good Food Month invites Perth’s best restaurants to curate and host their own unique experiences.

This year's program features everything from half price dumplings to snacking on bugs or taking on a beef and beer matching masterclass.

Here's a taste of the more than 60 Friends of Good Food Month events:

■ Three venues, Reveley, Island and Oyster Bar at Elizabeth Quay are offering three courses at a progressive Three at The Quay dinner each day for $49.

The event kicks off with a pre-dinner cocktail at Oyster Bar, paired with fresh oysters, then takes in a wander to The Island for wood-fired pizza and a pint of beer or a glass of wine.

Last stop is The Reveley for a dessert cocktail and Gusto Gelato.

■ Hill St is offering a steak sandwich daily from noon to 2pm for $15. The rye bread sandwich combines beef tenderloin, burger cheese, pickled onion, bacon jam and McClure’s pickles served with chips and a pint of lager.

■ Gazette's five-course Italian-inspired Vegan Degustation Experience is held on April 13 for $79.

Short Order Burger Co and Tiny’s Liquor Emporium are joining forces to offer a burger, fries and a beer on Mondays to Wednesdays from $15. When people buy beers from Tiny’s they can get a card stamped to unlock a special Good Food Month combo deal.

■ Bluerock Cafe Bar in East Perth is offering drinks and a range of modern Australian, Japanese and Korean dishes priced from $15 to $25 per person every Monday and Tuesday.

■ Alex Hotel sommelier Sofia Giros will take guests on a journey through Spanish wines from 5.30pm to 9.30pm on April 7, 14 and 21 for $88. The wine school is designed for all levels of people aged 18 and over covers off Spanish reds, Spanish whites and Spanish sparkling and sherry.

■ Perth’s first Korean barbecue restaurant, Arirang Korean BBQ will feature BBQ night every Tuesday and Thursday from 5.30pm for $64. Arirang will be offering a special $64 per person menu which includes Korean BBQ beef short rib (galbi), Korean BBQ seafood combo, honey fried chicken a bottle of Korean beer.

■ Some of Perth’s best food trucks will gather at Moreau Parade in East Perth for Queen’s Riverside and Fraser’s Suites Dinner at Dusk on April 12 from 5.30pm. Dinner at Dusk is the brainchild of the team at Barefoot Entertainment & Events and is free to attend. The pop-up foodie experience will feature live, local musicians and a comfy outdoor set up.

■ BamBamBoo turns four during Good Food Month and will celebrate with selected dumplings for half price from 11am to 8pm daily at 140 William Street, Perth.

■ The Best Brew Bar & Kitchen has a daily Flavours of Tequila from 11am to 10pm for $49, which pairs a dish with one of three unique tequilas that enhances the distinctive flavours of the dish.

■ The Courtside Restaurant is serving grass-fed grilled marinated Arkady lamb rump with asparagus, honey roasted baby carrots, beetroot, mashed potatoes and salsa verde paired with a glass of Australian Shiraz and finished with a complimentary passionfruit macaron every weeknight through April. The offer is available from 5.30pm to 9.30pm for $38 per person.

■ Oh Hey WA has a curated walking tour each Wednesday in April from 6pm showcasing the best food and drink in Perth’s CBD and Northbridge. The $70 tour includes a knowledgeable guide to show off mouth-watering food at three locations, plus access to exclusive drink discounts (drinks not included). The tour departs from The Digital Tower in Yagan Square.

Oh Hey WA is also guiding vegan food tours on Tuesdays at 6pm and Saturdays at 11am and 3pm for $90 per person. The tour stops to eat at four or five food venues across the CBD and Northbridge for plant-based dishes with cultural, history and vegan discussions between each venue.

■ The Street Eats Eatery in Yagan Square has a bugs plate with tequila from Tuesday to Sunday for $25. The menu features crickets and fried mealworms served on spinach and mint jelly, edible soil, greens and sauces with a serving of tequila.

■ Angel Falls Grill has rum and smoked beef degustations from Tuesday to Sunday throughout April for $75. They are offering three slowly smoked cuts of meat paired with six Venezuelan rums.

■ Uma Restaurant’s Malbec Dinner on April 17, for $149, pairs the flavours of Peru with an iconic WA winery’s Malbec. Guests will enjoy a five-course menu designed by chef Alejandro Saravia and will be guided by winemaker Craig Grafton through a range of current and back vintage wines. Reservations are available for couples and groups. Tickets include valet parking.

■ Morrocan-inspired rooftop venue Hadiqa is collaborating with Japanese whisky and cocktail bar Goody Two’s, starting at Hadiqa for an icy gin and tonic followed by saganaki, feta and garlic potatoes and either the eggplant, lamb or chicken kebab. Guests then move to Goody Two’s to refresh their palates with two signature highball cocktails before indulging in the Goody Two’s fried chicken, Shark Bay prawn toast and grass-fed beef plus a special dessert. The special runs 6pm-8pm Wed-Sat with tickets costing $100 plus booking fee.
