The Agrarian Kitchen Eatery is a bolthole in New Norfolk, Tasmania, where chef Ali Currey-Voumard grills cos lettuce with lovage and serves salads with broad beans and baby carrots. Words like convivial, idyllic and, eh, agrarian come to mind. Images involving The Prince of Darkness do not.

Regardless, Currey-Voumard will be cooking at the heavy metal-focused Download Festival in March headlined by Ozzy Osbourne, Slayer, Anthrax, Judas Priest and Alice in Chains.

In a chef line-up that rivals most food festivals, Currey-Voumard will be joined by Paul Carmichael (Momofuku Seiobo) and Enrico Tomelleri (Fratelli Paradiso, 10 William Street) for the Download's Sydney leg on March 9 at Parramatta Park.

Melbourne's Flemington Racecourse will rock out on March 11 with Phil Wood (Laura, Pt. Leo Restaurant), Aaron Turner (Igni) and Jo Barrett (Oakridge) on the festival pans.

Mary's co-owners Jake Smyth and Kenny Graham curated the chef line-up for Download Festival and will be on burger duties in Sydney and Melbourne.

"We've handpicked these chefs because they are our pals and we love them," says Smyth. "They are some of the best people to party with and they cook like f--king bastards, too."

Download Festival began in England in 2003 and the Australian edition launched last year.

"I grew up reading the line-up for Download back in the UK and busting to go," says Graham. "It's perhaps a case of divine intervention - of the devilish kind - that this festival has finally made its way to Australia."

Other restaurants on the Sydney Download bill include Chat Thai, Bovine and Swine, Nighthawk Diner and Chaco Bar. Melbourne can also turn the food dial up to 11 with Beatbox Kitchen, Harley and Rose, HSP and Juanita Peaches.
