Getting a table and buying a table have been equally competitive at Longrain restaurant over the past month.

With the seminal Surry Hills restaurant closing on Sunday, securing a reservation on its farewell tour has been tight, but the real tussle has been snapping up its sought-after fixtures and fittings.

We've long coveted the ping-pong-wide communal tables for Good Food HQ, but alas they have a new owner as of next week.

"They are going to an old hall out near Wagga Wagga that is being set up for functions," says Longrain owner Sam Christie.

The feature sculptural wall, which became so popular it is now in production, is being partially removed.

The tables will hang around to seat the winner of dinner for eight for the customer who provided the closest guess of how many of its signature eggnet dishes the restaurants served over its nearly 20 years ago.

"Around 218,400 (and counting)," Christie says.
