The world's leading chefs and restaurateurs will descend on Singapore next year, with the announcement that the culinary tour de force that is The World's 50 Best Restaurant Awards will be held in Asia for the first time in 2019.
As part of a three-year partnership with the tourism board, Singapore will also host The World's 50 Best Bar awards in 2021.
Singapore is the latest city to step up to the plate following glittering ceremonies in Bilbao, Spain in 2018, Melbourne in 2017 and New York in 2016. Previous to this, London hosted the awards since their inception in 2002 - snowballing from Restaurant Magazine's relatively inauspicious annual list, to become something rivalling Michelin-stars in influence and hype.
The S. Pellegrino & Acqua Panna-sponsored awards will be the focal event in a food-focused programme of events for the public and industry folk alike, including #50BestTalks, master classes and dinners by some of the world's greatest chefs. 50 Best and Singapore Tourism Board will also collaborate on an interactive culinary student programme.
The awards are voted for by over 1,000 industry experts worldwide, comprised of a 50-50 balance of men and women for the first time in 2019.
