The Lane Cove restaurant scene is about to receive a sugar hit, with high-profile modern Asian restaurant Sugarcane headlining a new development opening in early October.

The new spin-off venue will be called Sugarlane.

The Canopy Lane Cove includes a giant elevated village green with its own food precinct. Chef Milan Strbac – who relocated Sugarcane from Surry Hills to Coogee a few years ago – has become a poster boy for the rise of the suburbs.

With the CBD hit hard by COVID-19, Strbac has been buoyed by the success of the Coogee relocation.

"The appeal of the move was bringing my style of food to the north," he says. "It's a great location, there's a stage and they'll be doing weekly events. It'll be a community hub for Lane Cove."

Other names linked with The Canopy include Tramsheds eatery Garcon, and street culture venue Peanut Butter Jelly.
