Sure, we would rather be drinking martinis in bars and enjoying restaurant food at the source, but if lockdown has a silver lining it's the cracking selection of takeaway on offer while Sydney stays at home.

Sydney's hottest new bistro is keeping its takeaway simple with an American-style double-cheeseburger and beef fat potatoes for $25. Foie gras can be added for an extra $15 and 50 burgers will be available daily between 4pm and 9pm or until sold out (and they will sell out). Pick up only. Call 02 9167 6667 or order at the door.

All the baked goods from Sixpenny

It's back. The general store that created morning queues during lockdown last year returns to Australia's smallest three-hatted restaurant for one weekend only. Arrive early for gold-standard cakes, slices, croissants, bread and other baked goods. Open 9am to 3pm Saturday and Sunday. Pre-orders for whole cakes only through the Sixpenny website.

Chef Loong Oon opened his 200-seat Malaysian eatery – a tribute to the homestyle cooking of his late grandmother – only three weeks ago. Fragrant fishball soup is the signature, but a lockdown menu also lists fresh mud crab from the tank ($118 a kilo) in a garlic butter sauce or black pepper curry. Open 11.30am to 8pm daily or order through the website.

Yookgaejang from Sang by Mabasa

Sorry minestrone, there's a new winter soup in town. Sang's hearty yookgaejang special ($21) stars spicy slow-cooked beef, bean sprouts, black fungus and taro with a side of rice. The Korean restaurant is also on hand for kimchi pancakes, bibimbap and super crunchy fried chicken. Pre-order yookgaejang through the Sang website by noon for pick-up after 5pm.
