Gratitude is being displayed in a number of ways across Sydney hospitality venues. Applejack, which has seven high-profile venues, is set to announce a reopening strategy with a twist on Tuesday.

The first days of trade at all of their restaurants will pay tribute to their staff, with food provided free (excluding drink sales), allowing patrons to choose what they pay for food orders.

Any monetary contributions from the initiative will head directly to employees who weren't eligible for the government's JobKeeper scheme.

Rozelle eatery Le Coq was so thankful for the support received during the lockdown that the owners invited in a number of loyal customers who kept them ticking over.

They also invited local photographer John McRae and created a number of works titled The First Supper, which they'll hang in the restaurant.

"The picture tells the story of their personality," a spokeswoman for Le Coq says. "Everyone works and lives within the Rozelle-Balmain area or has a business here. Our locals have been a pinnacle in allowing our business to survive by ordering takeaways, buying gift vouchers and continually offering their support."
