Pour out a teapot cocktail for World Bar - the Kings Cross stalwart has announced its last service will be on Wednesday, November 28.

"This is obviously heartbreaking stuff, after being part of the Sydney music scene for more than 18 years it's tough to close the doors on a venue that really is like a big family," owner Steve Ward said in a statement.

"The obvious connection that people will make on our closure is the effect of the lock-out laws. It's undeniable that they have had a huge impact on us, as well as Sydney's live music scene.

"However, we believe there is a solution here, we have hope. We need the authorities to show true leadership and to make positive decisions for the music and creative communities and for everyone who likes to be social at night."

World Bar hosted a rich roster of local and international talent over its 18 years as one of Sydney's top live music venues with sets from Gang of Youths, DZ Deathrays and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.

It was a premier spot for dance music and DJs, holding ground in the Cross long after other late-night venues permanently closed after the lock-out laws were implemented in February 2014 to combat alcohol-fuelled violence.

The bar was also well known for its cocktails served in teapots. Circa 2005 there was arguably no cooler way to show you had a brain and were into live music than by sitting on the World's front balcony with a teapot cocktail, cigarette and ratty copy of Drum Media.

"Our parting words to anyone who loves Sydney's nightlife are these - the best way to rebel is to go out," Ward said.

"There are great venues and incredible music alive in the Cross and surrounding areas, so please get out there and support all our incredible friends - promoters, venue owners, artists - still battling away for their love of live music."

World Bar management says the final rave on Wednesday "is set to be a cracker".
