With Sydney rooftop venues more popular than Chicken Kiev was during the 1970s, the push for new sky-high space is about to hit Mosman.
John Tully and Luke Heard, the clever duo behind The Greens in North Sydney and Camperdown's Acre, have got their hands on the dormant rooftop space above the Mosman Club, where they'll open The Fernery in early December.
"It has views out to the Opera House and Harbour Bridge," Tully says.
They've toured the world looking for design inspiration for the project.
"One of the places we liked was the greenhouse feel of The Commissary in Los Angeles. We really intend to go over the top with the greenery and fresh flowers: hopefully people will walk in and go 'wow' about the space then feel the same when they see the view," Tully says.
They've already signed a chef double act to the project.
Gavin Gray will team up with Mitchell Davis, a previous winner of the best pub chef, the top award in the SMH Good Pub Food Guide.
