The Bach in Newtown fails to find buyer

Newtown venue the Bach Eatery will close its doors mid-January, a victim of Sydney's slowing restaurant business sales market. The inner-west bar-eatery, which won over reviewers with its pea-filled arancini with prawn bisque and house signature "grilled" cos lettuce, has been on the market since April. "Even though the business is busier than it has ever been, we have been unsuccessful in finding a buyer," co-owner Philippa Potaka tells Good Food. While a tight restaurant market has made it more difficult to shift even busy restaurants such as the Bach as going concerns, there's evidently still an appetite to birth new food concepts. "We have a few people interested in taking over the lease, a vegan eatery from Melbourne and one from Sydney…. we are still going through the motions of transfer and envisage the successful business taking over in February," Potaka adds.
