Canberra may be filled with departments (of the government kind), but none of them are as delicious as this one.

Doughnut Department has opened in No Name Lane on Marcus Clarke Street, with a tempting cabinet of sweet treats.

Doughnuts are handmade fresh in-store daily, yeast risen and made from local ingredients and range from $5-6. Flavours change constantly and range from your classics to dark chocolate with cocoa nib and sea salt, Dulce de leche with toasted almonds, or the American buttermilk old-fashioned.

And they're taking doughnuts way beyond the glass cabinet. The cafe serves a small all-day menu, with the doughnuts featuring in a few dishes - there's granola with a doughnut crunch, and cured tuna served with thin slices of doughnut.

If that's not enough doughnut for you, there are also plans for weekly evening champagne and doughnut experiences.

Coffee is from Six8Coffee in Yass, which is served in-store in charming mugs made especially for the cafe by Hillgrove Pottery in Murrumbateman.

The store is a partnership between Clint and Andrea Hutchinson (Fashfest, HAUS Models), and chef Nathan Frost (formerly Courgette, Hippo Bar, Lonsdale Street Roasters).

The back of Doughnut Department houses the new Fashfest and HAUS Models office, as well as a hot desking area for their clients, and the cafe is also a public space for creatives to connect and share ideas, with spaces to work and free wifi available.

Doughnut Department is open from 7.30am-4pm, Monday to Friday.
