The pasta masters at CBD favourite Tipo 00 are turning their hand to pizza, opening Figlia this autumn in Brunswick East.

"It's a natural progression for us to challenge ourselves, rather than doing another pasta place," says chef and co-owner Andreas Papadakis, also a partner in Osteria Ilaria in Little Bourke Street.

Papadakis is developing the dough and a menu that includes snacks, wood-grilled vegetables and larger plates, making Figlia more a wine bar that serves pizza than a pizzeria. Toppings, like the rest of the menu, will be seasonal.

The 70-seat Figlia will be joined by Grana, a deli selling cheese made by executive pastry chef-turned-cheesemaker Lucy Whitlow, who is already producing fresh, soft, hard and blue styles, working closely with Papadakis. Grana will also stock house-made salumi, fresh produce, sandwiches and more, and may play host to cooking classes in future.

The two businesses are moving into a 300-square-metre corner site on Lygon Street with an art deco-inspired facade and interiors by Ewert Leaf.
