Woollahra's Buzo restaurant is closing. Again. The Jersey Road stalwart, which took a brief hiatus when it operated as Pinbone restaurant, was resurrected when Macleay Street Bistro's Mark Campbell and Phillip Fikkers snapped up the site in 2015. The duo rebooted it as Buzo, but this time a final stake has been driven through Buzo's heart, with its last service next weekend.

The restaurant will relaunch on March 13 as Jersey Rd. Bistro. Chef Jason Dean, who has worked at est. and Gastro Park, will steer the menu on a modern Australian bistro path.

Dean argues a number of factors led to the decision to change, including over-valuing the Buzo brand, the number of Italian and Euro-leaning restaurants in its neighbourhood, and the opportunity for more synergy with its Macleay Street sister restaurant.

"I don't like to be pigeon-holed [with] a cuisine," the chef adds. "The tablecloths are going upstairs, and a few other changes."

Dean's opening menu looks to be worth a detour. Confit of kingfish with black lentils, a Parmesan ravioli with peas and porcini and grilled octopus with spiced eggplant all make the cut. Sunday brunch includes fried duck egg as well as a mushroom omelette.

Open Tue-Sat 5pm-late; Sun brunch 10am-3pm.
