What do you get when you take Braddon's Chez Frederic, throw in a bit of attitude, some table service and plenty more parking? Winifred's Place is the venue's new sibling restaurant, opening this week at the Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets.

Owners Sara Poguet and Patrick Gaffney have taken over the spot that formerly housed 3 Seeds Cooking School.

The concept is similar to the Braddon restaurant - Italian with a French and Aussie twist - but Winifred's has table service, plus a dedicated takeaway area for easy pick ups. Head chef Poguet considered a few locations when opening her second venue, before settling on the markets.

"Choosing the markets was a no brainer - it has such a vibrant and fun atmosphere, and that's what Winifred's is all about," she said.

"Our bifold doors really makes it seem like you are pouring into the markets below."

The menu is a more extensive version of Braddon's - breakfast ranges from your classic eggs or pancakes to the eggs benedict raviolli, or the barbecue prawns with hommus and avocado on rye. Lunch and dinner is predominantly pasta dishes, like kangaroo and chipotle bolognese, seafood infused spaghetti, or duck ravioli - and all are available gluten free. Daily specials will be heavily produce-driven, with ingredients snapped up daily from the markets below. Takeaway is also available, and is priced differently to dining in.

The large space allows room for two giant pasta machines - one dedicated to gluten free pasta so there is no chance of cross contamination - and fresh pasta will be for sale during market hours.

There is plenty of seating both indoors and spilling out onto the balcony - including bench seating that almost puts you right in the action of the kitchen.

"The layout of the space is really fun. Having the kitchen immersed in the dining section means the chefs are totally part of the scene as well. Customers can see exactly what we are about, which is having fun and making good food," said Poguet.

Another big drawcard for the venue - ample carparking, something which the Braddon restaurant could only dream about.

Winifred's Place - named as the feminine version to Braddon's Chez 'Fred' - opens to public from 7.30am Thursday March 8, and Poguet said there's plenty planned in the coming months.

"We will be collaborating with The Pop Inn wine bar soon where there will be a grassed area in the carpark and we'll have lawn games for the kids, parents can grab a bite to eat and drink wine from the pop inn and watch their kids."

Winifred's Place, Level 1, 12 Dalby Street, Fyshwick. Open Tues to Wed 5-10pm, and Thurs-Sun 7.30am-10.30pm. winifredsplace.com.au.
