Another week, another new restaurant opening on the Lonsdale Street strip.

This time around it's Modern Afghan restaurant Bamiyan, from Kabul-born, Sydney-based restaurateur Haseeb Miazad.

Miazad first opened Bamiyan in Sydney's Five Dock in 2011, and has since added two more Sydney restaurants, with Canberra his fourth.

Located at the Civic end of Lonsdale Street, the restaurant has taken over where Lebanese restaurant La Mono was previously.

Representative of the multicultural nature of Afghanistan, the menu has flavours from Persia, India, the Mediterranean and even parts of Asia. Expect dumplings, charcoal grilled meats, plenty of curries, naan breads, plus desserts.

Miazad said a menu highlight is their Kabuli pulao recipe, which he was once asked to cook on an Afghan episode of SBS show Food Safari. While his recipe his a secret, the rice gets soaked overnight, and is prepared in what is a "lengthy process".

Bamiyan is open seven days for lunch and dinner. 62/10 Lonsdale St, Braddon.
